25/06/09 We had a problem with teenagers running around our floor, and the hotel accomodated this by moving us to a gorgeous room! The entire stay was wonderful

25/06/09 The Empress, is THE hotel in Victoria.
We stayed for a low price in a very large comfortable room. We got the feeling that the room was situated in a slightly older part of the hotel, but the quality of the room nevertheless was excellent. And very charming. Reception staff, prters and concierge were friendly and helpfull.
Hotel facilities excellent, location of the hotel also excellent.
Excellent value for the money.

afternoon tea excellent our waitress was more than obliging and assissted us in any way with any request. She is credit to the company.( her name Krista )

dinner this left a lot to be desired large plates with small quantity of food for the price. Vegetables were nhon existant and had to ask for the fiddleheads listed on the menu but not supplied.JUne asked for "veal" to be well cooked with no blood or redness this took 3 attempts before it was correct. I wouldnot recommend any one toeat here for the price and quanity of food served. Waiter started off very good but was then moved to another table where obviously the maitre knew the guests and fromthen service was slow.

25/06/09 The location and convenience of this hotel cannot be beat. We got a great deal a week or two before our stay and luckily enough, we got a room as it was fully booked the night we stayed. Afternoon tea was fabulous. However the non-smoking room we stayed in clearly had a smoker in it and the water temperature had a mind of its own. Small details like those made the hotel not meet my expectations. However if you are just staying a nght or two, I would still recommend it but ony if you are not paying full price. Otherwise, I would just stay at a B&B and then visit the Fairmont Empress for high tea and enjoy the view from that lovely room.

25/06/09 The property is beautiful and everyone working there was very friendly. I booked a room with a harbour view, and was told when I checked in that there were none available, so they put me in the "gold" level. This included use of the lounge where they had a fabulous complementary breakfast and also lovely snacks and a bar in the evening. I was very pleased with the property. I would absolutely stay there again.

25/06/09 Got a great deal on this 5-star hotel on the internet and was very pleased. Read some negative comments initially about the old facility and small rooms which did not pan out. I paid about $55 (US) for an upgrade upon check-in for a premium (larger) king room with harbor view and it was worth every penny. Saw ferries come in and sea planes taking off from my window. Got terrific views of the legislative and Royal BC museum as well. The room and detailed amenities were excellent. The service staff was exceptional, including the concierge who recommended outstanding nearby restaurants and activities. The pool, fitness center, and locker rooms were recently remodeled and were terrific. Overall exceeded my expectations, and this will be my benchmark standard for a 5-star stay!
